Is there corruption in the judiciary? This question can have two answers — first, where is there no corruption? Second, how can we say that there is corruption? But where did this question arise from?
There is a Class 8 Social Sciences textbook that includes a chapter titled “Corruption in Judiciary.” Chief Justice Surya Kant objected to this and said, “No one in the world will be allowed to defame the judiciary. This appears to be a well-planned and deep conspiracy. I know how to deal with it. I will handle this case myself.”
On the other hand, NCERT stated, “We respect the country’s judiciary and Constitution, and this mistake happened unintentionally. The chapter in this book will be rewritten after consulting experts.”
Not just the judiciary — no profession anywhere in the world should be stigmatized. However, while discussing such issues, one name comes to mind: Justice Yashwant Varma, from whose official residence a substantial amount of cash was reportedly recovered.
