I wanted to stop off at Childers for a 4K walking tour after having driven through a few days earlier and I was struck by the architecture of the town.
Childers is not too far from Bundaberg, about four to five hours north of Brisbane. The town centre has retained most of its old world charm. 20 years ago, the backpackers hostel in the middle of town was set alight by a criminal, causing the loss of a number of lives. The building remains and can be seen in the walk, though it no longer operates but acts as a memorial.
Despite the sad history, Childers remains a friendly, quaint, village like town with a bakery people come from all over to visit. I hope you enjoy this quiet, gentle 4K stroll around Childers.
