The Bloodshark, designed by Tracker Dan, is a very popular defensive fixed blade knife. Because of the designer's Naval Special Warfare background, and the support the design received from luminaries such as Kyle Defoor and (formerly) Sayoc Tactical Group, it has become a common sight on the belts and tactical gear of armed citizens and professionals alike.
In this video, we take about half an hour to explore the Bloodshark, as made by Tracker Dan (although that is the exact same design as rendered by Strider Knives for Sayoc Tactical for a short period, and by Joe Watson in collaboration with Tracker Dan), it's design, construction, and sheathing (a Tracker Dan sheath, in the style that is more widely available from Blade Rigs).
Our conclusions are that the knife is a very poor design overall, with a sheath that impedes drawstroke, a grip that is uncomfortable, and a handle design that opens the users hand to sliding up onto the blade risking serious injury. Sadly, these failures are all highly repeatable, and not one-off flukes.
The knife and accompanying trainer are also poorly made; Needlessly rough (even for a hard use knife) to the point of being essentially unfinished, and rough in ways that compromise the integrity of the materials used.
We present this not to talk shit on anyone or any particular methodologies, but because after working with the Bloodshark we believe it to be a dangerous design, because of it's shortcomings, that could get users hurt. We are compelled to present that, and warn users about those dangers.
