Описание: On February 24, 2023, in Herndon, Virginia, Christine Banfield was found stabbed in her upstairs bedroom and transported to a hospital, where she later died; Joseph “Joe” Ryan was found shot dead on the scene.

Brendan Banfield, Christine’s husband and a former IRS agent, initially claimed that Ryan was an intruder who attacked Christine with a knife, and that he shot Ryan in defense of his wife.

The family’s live-in au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães, 24, called 911, saying “a friend of mine is hurt,” then passed the call to Banfield, who reportedly told dispatchers, “I just shot a man. He was attacking my wife.”

Investigators later uncovered evidence that Banfield and Magalhães had been having an affair since around August 2022, and that Banfield allegedly plotted to “be rid of” his wife.

According to prosecutors, Banfield created a profile under what appeared to be Christine’s identity on a fetish dating website (FetLife), lured Joe Ryan to the house under false premises involving a sexual fantasy, and used burner phones and manipulated digital communications in order to set the stage for the murders.

Magalhães eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for cooperation, including testifying against Banfield, while Banfield was indicted on multiple counts of aggravated murder and firearm charges.
