ZImbabwe's war for liberation,
Waged for 16 years, between 1963 and 1979, was a turning point for the country. In its aftermath, Zimbabwe gained independence from Britain.
The country was to now chart its own way as a full sovereign state.
42 years later, we look back.
We look back at the freedoms that were promised to the thousands of young men and women who sacrificed their lives, education and careers to join the fight for liberation.
We also reflect on their experiences, motivations and regrets back then,
We check up on them to understand where some of them are now
This is part of the initiative to pay tribute to living and fallen heroes for their sacrifices in the fight for an independent Zimbabwe.
These gallant fighters understood that freedom could not be given to them as a gift. They knew it had to be relentlessly fought for and achieved.
And today, we bring conversations with the unnamed heroes of the liberation struggle
