Roughly 12,850 years ago the earth was in a gradual warming process which kept the glaciers in North America and Europe slowly receding around the same areas they are today. When out of nowhere a field of comets impacted earth around the lake superior region creating the largest lake on earth today. This impact rattled the earth changing its climate immediately. Temperatures in northern latitudes reached as low as -150 degrees Fahrenheit in an instant. This is what was responsible for 82% of species in north America to go extinct. As well as the freezing of much of the megafauna some still with food in their mouths. This event is said to have caused massive worldwide cataclysms including mega tsunamis, super volcanoes, record breaking earthquakes, and even the shifting of continents, changing the terrain permanently. This event also sent us back into an ice age for about 3,000 years. And it is likely their were many more impacts during this time as well. Researchers say it is likely our planet was going through the tale of a comet causing us to be peppered with debris for roughly a thousand years. This was likely why ancient people around the globe saw comets as a sign of an apocalyptic event on the horizon. Events like comet impacts happen cyclically and can be tracked. This may be a large reason of as to why so many ancient peoples tracked the celestial movements so diligently. They knew what almost wiped out their ancestors and they knew it was likely to return again and reset this civilization back to a primitive era.
