If you want to change your name on Instagram without affecting your name on Facebook, the key is to manage your settings within Instagram’s Account Center. When your Instagram and Facebook accounts are connected under the same Account Center, changes made to your profile name may sync across both platforms. To avoid this and keep your Instagram name changes separate, you can either update the name specifically under your Instagram profile or fully unlink the accounts.

Start by opening the Instagram app and navigating to your profile by tapping the icon at the bottom right. Then tap the three-line menu icon at the top right corner and select 'Settings and privacy'. Scroll down and choose 'Account Center'.

Inside Account Center, tap on 'Profiles'. You’ll see both your Instagram and Facebook profiles listed here if they’re linked. Tap on your Instagram profile. Then select the 'Name' option. Here, you can change your display name and username as desired. After editing, tap 'Save'. This change will only affect Instagram if the profiles are not synced for name updates.

However, if you notice that the name still syncs with your Facebook profile, you may need to unlink the two accounts. Go back to the main menu in Account Center, scroll to the 'Accounts' section, and select the Facebook account currently linked to Instagram. Tap 'Remove from Account Center' to unlink Facebook from your Instagram.

Once unlinked, any changes made to your Instagram name will no longer reflect on Facebook. This ensures both profiles remain independent in terms of public identity and display names.
