Описание: Gynecomastia is an abnormal hormonal imbalance that results in the aberrant volume of breast tissue in men. It may occur on only one side, and thus referred to as unilateral, or if on both sides, bilateral gynecomastia.
Gynecomastia is quite common and can occur in various stages of life as a result of hormonal changes. At birth, the first congenital gynecomastia disappears easily. During puberty, hormonal fluctuations lead to the formation of gynecomastia, which disappears naturally in about two years. Fifty-year-olds can be afflicted with gynecomastia related to the decline in testosterone. Gynecomastia can also result from testicular cancer, liver disease or hormonal imbalances related to glandular dysfunction or smoking marijuana.
Gynecomastia can be corrected with plastic surgery. Generally, it is not, by itself, a serious condition but it can be mortifying. The surgery performed to reduce the size and volume of the enlarged breasts in men involves semi Indiocircular excision of the glandular excesses around the edges of the areola. This is usually performed under general anesthesia to make it more comfortable and less painful for the patient.
During the intervention, a layer of 8 to 10 mm of the glandular surplus is left to preserve the blood network vitality in the area. The breast reduction procedure for gynecomastia is usually performed in one hour and is an outpatient procedure.
Many patients ask what to expect after the procedure is performed. Compression dressings should be worn during the week following surgery. In the case of a large glandular volume excision, drainage tubes may be necessary during the first two or three days. If the sutures are not absorbable, they will be removed 7 or 8 days after surgery. It is not uncommon for patients undergoing this procedure to experience swelling and bruising. These are natural side effects and will disappear without additional treatment within a week or two after the surgery.
Gynecomastia surgery almost always produces very good results. The results are almost instantaneous as the breast reduction is visible immediately after surgery and are permanent. However, it normally takes at least three to six months before final results of the intervention can be fully seen and appreciated.
