Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains on our 2022 Subaru Outback. Now this is gonna be for tire size 225/65R17. If your tire size is different, be sure to plug in your vehicle information and your tire information into our fit guide and find the right kit for you. Just because there are other options within the Outback options and you wanna make sure you get the right chain for your car.

Right away I wanna talk about that this is a diamond pattern chain. Now what that means is at the cross sections where the chain goes across the tire it's going to form these diamond shapes rather than a ladder pattern style that is running parallel links all across the tire. Now, ladder pattern is good for start and stops. It gets a good traction there but it is going to be a bumpier ride quality. Diamond pattern makes better contact all throughout the tire and gives you better traction for things like turns and overall a somewhat smoother ride quality.

So that's just some things to consider whenever you're looking at these. Taking a closer look at the link shape these are gonna be constructed of a square link which you can see has some characteristics of hard edges and a little bit more high profile compared to something like a twisted link or a cable. This is going to give you better traction just overall. Good for deeper snow, but the square length design in those hard edges help bite into ice and break it up a bit more. So if you're in mixed conditions and want better traction this could be a good option.

The real star of the show here is the self tensioning mechanism. What self tensioning means is that it's actively pulling the chains tight. So as you drive, you've got that tension being pulled on it with this mechanism. So whenever you get them set up, drive forward and you're on your way, they should constantly be pulling tight. A lot of other more manual chains we always recommend getting a rubber tensioner separate.

That basically does the same thing pulling constant tension on the chains. The way this is nice is you don't have to worry about those. It's built right into the chain and it's gonna get you a solid and secure fit on the tire. Overall, the chains are constructed of a titanium alloy steel. The alloy construction's gonna help make sure it's strong and durable, resistant to rust and corrosion over time especially compared to a lower end chain which would be something like a low carbon steel. Those just aren't as durable and have a tendency to get mushed down and bent up a lot more when you use them over multiple seasons. So for something like this, it's definitely gonna last a long time. All the chains on the inside of the tire chain and the joints right here, these are coded and the joints have plastic bumpers on them so any part that might come in contact or in close proximity to the wheel of your car is going to have some layer of protection there. So we're not too worried about scratching up our wheels. These do come with a carrying case, this sort of soft shell material that is actually pretty high quality. You've got dedicated storage spaces for each one so they can keep them organized and in one safe place. Compared to a lot of other bags that some tire chains come in this is definitely more high quality, easy to just zip up and keep in your car so you have it on hand for when you need them. Now we of course recommend installing these in your driveway once or twice just to get a feel for it before you're out in that situation where you need to install them. And if you're looking at other options similar to this a lot of people go with the Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains. Those are gonna be very similar to this self tensioning and a very easy install process. I'd maybe opt for these if you're looking for something a bit more aggressive because that link size is a bit bigger. But speaking of the installation process, let's get into that and show you how we did it. Now the first thing you wanna do for your installation is lay out the chains and make sure that nothing's tangled up and everything is oriented properly. Just a couple things to note here.
