A gathering of more than 200 people at Calder Plaza on Satruday, Feb. 18 came after the shooting of Da’Quain Johnson, 32, on the Southeast Side of Grand Rapids.
Johnson’s mother, Angelica Johnson, was there, along with two other mothers whose sons were killed by police.
There was Andrica Cage, mother of Samuel Sterling, who was struck by a Michigan State Police vehicle that was pursuing him on April 17, 2024, and Ayanna Johnson, mother of Darius 'Karate' Wimberly, who was killed by police 10 years ago in Benton Harbor.
