It was filmed at the Plym Valley Railway on Sunday 22nd June 2025 as part of their Transport Weekend event.

The event saw an intensive timetable of both steam and diesel services and was staged to coincide with the Railway 200 celebrations that are taking place throughout the UK during 2025.

For the very first time, The Lord Oliver Brown (Polish) Locomotive (TKh 5374) was joined with resident Industrial Steam Locomotive ‘Albert’ (2248) in hauling trains along the one mile route between Marsh Mills and Plym Bridge.

The line was originally part of the South Devon & Tavistock Railway which linked Plymouth with Tavistock opening in 1859 and which closed on 31st December 1962 with the track being uplifted shortly afterwards.

Until the start of 1980, that was the end of the story.

The Plym Valley Railway Association was formed in 1980 with the aim of restoring the part of the line between Marsh Mills and Plym Bridge as a heritage railway.

The story of the Plym Valley Railway from its birth to the present day is an exciting chapter in the history of the line. A new base for the railway was set up along with relaying of track along with a new junction and eventually a new station at Marsh Mills. Several decades of hard work was involved by a dedicated team of volunteers (the railway has no paid staff) to transform the site from a Siding to a Station.

Exactly 50 years and one day after it had originally closed, passenger trains returned to a rebuilt station at Plym Bridge Platform on 30th December 2012.

What must have seemed almost impossible back in 1980 had been achieved. The ‘Branch’ was back in business.
