In today’s video, I shared “The Bracelet: To Julia” by Robert Herrick, a seventeenth-century English poet known for his tender reflections on love, beauty, and the tender bonds that shape our lives. I chose this poem because it expresses something timeless: the way in which we give meaning to the objects that link us to others. Herrick’s silken twist around Julia’s wrist becomes a symbol of affection and devotion. In the same way, we all have our own versions of this “bracelet” in the small and dear things that remind us of those we love.

I wanted to invite you to think about what those special items might be for you, whether it is a bracelet, a necklace, a ring, a piece of clothing, or something simple yet full of sentiment. For me, one of those treasures is a gold necklace with a heart charm that I have worn every day since February 2024. It was given to me by a very special person, and wearing it feels like carrying that person’s heart close to my own. It gives me comfort and reminds me that I am never truly alone, even when we are far apart.

I also have several pairs of earrings that were gifts from my mother. She loves to find beautiful earrings and share them with me, and every morning when I put them on, I think of her and feel connected to her. Another special item is a pair of white Reebok shoes that were bought for me by a dear friend in New York with whom I share many memories. I have several more such special things in my life, including books, journals, and other mementos, each bearing its own story and reminding me of the people who have touched my heart in profound ways.

What I have learned is that the most meaningful objects in our lives gain their worth through the emotions and stories they hold within them. They become symbols of the people who shape us and the moments that make us who we are. Each time I see or wear these things, I remember how deeply I am loved and how much those people mean to me. ♥️
