On Tuesday, June 17, as lawmakers worked to finalize their state budget proposal, New Hampshire health care leaders and families gathered to raise concerns about harmful Medicaid changes under consideration in the state budget.
The budget proposal that passed New Hampshire Senate last month includes Medicaid work requirements and increased cost-sharing for patients, both of which could force thousands of Medicaid recipients to lose their coverage. The House-passed version of the budget includes a 3 percent reduction in Medicaid reimbursement rates. Together, these policies would impose significant financial burdens and barriers to care for Granite State families, particularly children who make up half of New Hampshire’s Medicaid population; and they threaten the financial stability of hospitals, health centers, and long-term care providers, especially those in rural and underserved areas.
With budget negotiations ongoing, speakers called on lawmakers to reject policies that would create barriers to care and instead prioritize investments that strengthen New Hampshire's health care system and support all our residents across the state.
