Описание: Sri Gaura Purnima is the auspicious appearance day of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is also known as Gauranga due to His golden complexion.

As revealed in the scriptures, the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna appeared in the form of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to demonstrate the path of devotional service (bhakti) and surrender to Lord Krishna through Harinama sankirtana - the congregational chanting of the holy names of God, in the form of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.

He took birth on the full moon day in the month of Phalguna (Feb-March) in 1486 CE at Sridham Mayapur (West Bengal) as the son of Sri Jagannatha Mishra and Srimati Shachidevi. His parents lovingly named Him Nimai, as He was born under a Nimba (neem) tree in the courtyard of His paternal home.

Sri Gaura Purnima also marks the beginning of the New Year for Gaudiya Vaishnavas. On this day, devotees fast until moonrise, chanting the Hare Krishna Mahamantra and meditating on Lord Chaitanya’s glories and His teachings.

At ISKCON Hare Krishna Hill, Rajajinagar, Their Lordships Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga (Lord Nityananda and Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) are adorned in a special alankara on this occasion.

The celebrations commence in the evening with a grand pallakki utsava of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga. Their Lordships are carried in a beautifully decorated pallakki amidst ecstatic kirtans. Following the procession, the Deities of Nitai Gauranga receive a majestic abhisheka.

During the abhisheka, Their Lordships are first bathed with panchamrita and then with panchagavya, followed by various fruit juices, as devotees melodiously chant verses from the Brahma-samhita, glorifying the Lord. A grand arati is then performed to the accompaniment of the Gaura arati, a song composed by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura. Thereafter, the Deities are bathed with sanctified water from 108 kalashas while the devotees chant the Purusha Sukta prayers. Their Lordships then receive pushpa vrishti (showering of fragrant flowers) and a special offering of 56 dishes (chappan bhog).

The divine evening concludes with the shayana arati, wherein devotees sing Sri Sachi Tanayashtakam, a beautiful composition describing Lord Chaitanya’s transcendental form, qualities, and pastimes. The festival draws to a blissful close with the shayana pallakki utsava.

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is one of the most revered saints and reformers of the Bhakti movement. He is celebrated as the foremost preacher of divine love for Lord Krishna and the pioneer of the modern Hare Krishna Movement. His mission was to propagate Harinama sankirtana as the yuga-dharma of this age. He was initially named Vishwambhara and later became renowned as Nimai Pandita for His scholarship. After embracing the renounced order of life (sannyasa), He was revered as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

During His first 24 years in Navadvipa, Mahaprabhu lived as a scholar and householder. The latter half of His life was spent in Jagannatha Puri, where He profoundly influenced society through Harinama sankirtana and travelled across India, spreading the teachings of Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita.

He taught that protecting and purifying one's consciousness through Krishna’s names awakens innate spirituality, enabling one to become a true lover of God. His universal mission transcended caste, creed, and religion, presenting a harmonious path of spiritual enlightenment based on devotion to Lord Krishna. His remarkable life and timeless teachings continue to inspire and transform countless lives.
