Approximately 13.9% percent of adults in South Texas have diabetes compared to 12.5% in the rest of Texas and 9.4% in the nation. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of chronic kidney disease, and chronic kidney disease has become a major public health concern in South Texas.
This study aims to provide individualized lifestyle intervention which helps patients in South Texas living with diabetes to better control their blood glucose and prevent them from progressing to chronic kidney disease.
Our postdoctoral fellow in the School of Nursing at UT Health San Antonio, tells us about the research she is conducting in the Center on Smart and Connected Health Technologies that utilizes digital devices to help people manage chronic conditions, such as glucose levels in people living with diabetes.
