Today, I had the pleasure of assisting my friend Dan with a unique cedar lattice project. We needed to transform some sturdy cedar 2x6s into delicate 1/2 inch strips to bring his vision to life. Although I had some initial doubts about whether our Woodland Mills HM 130 MAX could handle this task, I decided to give it a shot.
To ensure the 2x6s stayed securely in place, I employed heavy barbell weights to weigh them down before carefully clamping them into position. Surprisingly, our sawmill handled the job admirably, delivering clean and precise cuts throughout most of the project.
However, as we approached the final two cuts, things got a bit more challenging. Once again, I relied on the weights to keep the strips stable, but this required some deft maneuvering to guide the sawblade safely beneath them. It was a close call, but I managed to avoid any mishaps, making sure not to hit any log stops or log dog clamps along the way.
In the end, the effort paid off. Dan's lattice project turned out beautifully and added an enchanting touch to his wife's already stunning garden. While he kindly offered payment for my assistance, I graciously declined, opting instead for a delightful dinner at his home.
Later in the video, I provide an update on the progress we've made with our new sawmill shed and shared a closer look at the special metal roofing we sourced from Metallion Industries in Estacada, Oregon. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on our projects!
