After the Mughal Emperor Humayun died in 1556, his widow Haji Begum commissioned this grand mausoleum in his memory. Construction began in 1565 and was completed in 1572. It was the first garden-tomb in India and a pioneering example of Mughal architecture, blending Persian, Turkic, and Indian design styles.
