In this video, I prepare a fully bioactive enclosure for my incoming Rainbow Stag Beetle. Since I’ll be receiving the beetle next week, I wanted to set up the habitat early to allow the springtails to establish and begin breaking down organic material.
This setup uses natural materials like cocopeat, leaf litter, and collected wood to recreate a forest-floor environment. The goal is to create a stable, self-sustaining ecosystem that supports humidity control, reduces mold, and prepares the enclosure for future breeding.
Bioactive setups take time to mature, so this is the first step in building a proper long-term habitat.
In this video:
• Preparing the enclosure before the beetle arrives
• Adding substrate layers and natural materials
• Seeding springtails to establish the cleanup crew
• Creating a functional and natural environment
This is part of my journey into stag beetle keeping and breeding.
If you have tips or experience with bioactive beetle setups, feel free to share them in the comments.
