In the 1964 Tom and Jerry theatrical short *The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse*, directed by Chuck Jones and Maurice Noble and released December 8, 1964, Tom initially treats Jerry like a servant, but everything changes when a cute brown-and-white kitten is delivered to the house and instantly wins both Jerry’s affection and the owner’s heart. Jealous and unwilling to share, Tom repeatedly tries to get rid of the kitten, leading to slapstick antics including roller skate mishaps, banana peel gags, and Tom getting stuck in a garden gate. Jerry steps in to protect the kitten and turn the tables, culminating in comic punishment for Tom before peace returns with Jerry and the kitten enjoying milk together.
