You are hereby entrusted with one of the resistance forces' main offensive vehicles. It might be pieces of scrap metal welded onto a dune-buggy frame, but the Tau Cannon and hardiness of the Scout Car can't be underestimated. Use it to jump gaps, run over new and vicious giant insectoid mutants called Antlions, and flee to the coastal road. You'll encounter various settlements, including New Little Odessa where Colonel Cubbage resides - who refuses to come out to fight. Learning how to down a horrifying Combine Gunship is your first major task, after which the cruise continues all the way to a variety of crumbling rural settlements crawling with Combine Soldiers. After you acquire the Crossbow, there's a final tricky task of maneuvering across the underside of a suspension bridge before you can escape.

Highway 17 is the seventh chapter in Half-Life 2.

This chapter is full of insight on the environmental damage done to the Earth caused by the Combine invasion. The water levels along the coast are seen to be drastically receded, with ships stuck on the sand and docks a good distance away from the water, implying mass drainage of the oceans by the Combine. The water is also discovered to be filled with deadly leeches. Earth fauna are entirely absent save for the occasional seagull, having been wiped out by the invasive Xen species. There are also many old houses located along the coast, some being home to resistance members and escaped refugees, most having been raided by Combine troops.
