In this conversation, I sit down with Dave Allison — also known as Death Metal Dave — to talk about his firsthand experiences around Florida’s early death metal scene.

Dave shares stories from a time when bands like Death and Obituary were emerging, being promoted, and recording at the legendary Morrisound Recording. He also talks about helping bands get connected, hanging out during recording sessions, and being immersed in the Tampa metal scene as it was taking shape.

While this conversation focuses heavily on early death metal, the Tampa Bay Museum of Metal represents the broader Florida metal scene — from death metal to traditional heavy metal, melodic metal, and beyond — spanning multiple eras and styles.

The Museum itself is a pop-up, annual event featuring:

Memorabilia and historic artifacts
Vintage flyers and promotional materials
Instruments, banners, and displays
Booths hosted by bands and musicians
A chance to meet fellow metalheads and members of the scene
