"Samhain" (pronounced “SOW-in” in Irish) was the most sacred of the ancient Celtic festivals, marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. Celebrated on the night of October 31st to November 1st, it was believed that during Samhain the veil between the living and the dead grew thin, allowing spirits and ancestors to walk among us.
Bonfires were lit to protect communities, offerings were made to the gods and the Aos Sí (fair folk), and druids performed rituals of prophecy. Many of today’s Halloween traditions, such as costumes, carved lanterns, and honoring the dead, trace their origins back to Samhain.
This track “Samhain” blends ancient Celtic atmosphere with modern pagan and medieval-inspired sounds, evoking the mystery of the dark night, the firelit rituals, and the whispers of spirits beyond the veil.
🔥 Enter the timeless night of Samhain, where harvest ends, winter begins, and the otherworld draws near.
📖 Historical Note:
The word Samhain comes from Old Irish, meaning “Summer’s End.” For the Celts, it was not just a festival of death, but a New Year’s Eve, a turning of the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
