Shuzenji: A Journey into Izu's Tranquil Embrace. 2 nights at AKARI et KAORI Shizuoka Japan

On this day, we took the Odoriko Train from Shinagawa Station to Shuzenji Station. The 2 hour trip takes you out of the city, along the coast of Sagami Bay, into the heart of Izu. At Shuzenji Station, a food fair with local delights are offered and purchased using scripts. The air was filled with live music and the aroma of local delicacies. Here we took a quick break with beer and cheese, and bought a bottle of umeshu (plum wine) to enjoy at the ryokan.

Taking a five minute cab ride from the station we encountered our first sight of the sakura. We dropped off the luggage at our accommodation, Akari et Kaori, and began exploring the charming town. The first two spots are centrally located near each other, Shuzenji Temple and Tokko no Yu.

Walking past Tokko no Yu and Cafe Hirono, along the Katsura River, the path leads to the beautiful bright red Katsura Bridge. We continued our walk through the bamboo grove and further before returning to Akari et Kaori.

After spending some time settling in and enjoying the ambience of the quiet ryokan, we got dressed and indulged in a meticulously assembled kaiseki dinner.
