The obsession with foot position/pressure continues. This time we’re looking at it with respects to the push press. (Side note: push press is the one movement every kid should learn. More on the why in the video above.) You know what’s coming. Feet straight, balance between heel and ball of foot.
What we want to see during the dip is consistent foot pressure. To let the athlete “feel” that, we’ll have them pause at the bottom shape and again at the top.
One cue we’ll use with the athletes: “As soon as you feel your feet, you can move to the next position.” This extends the rep to give the athletes a chance to feel and reconnect.
Once you start cycling, you add that absorbing force and introduce more chaos into the training and really begin to test how quickly the athlete can find that feeling and reload into the position.
