Keeping Language Arts On The Low: A Low-Key Rap Verse
Kalonji Nzinga, CU Boulder Assistant Professor of Learning Sciences & Human Development
Kalonji Nzinga is a professor of Learning Sciences and Human Development at the University of Colorado Boulder. He is a trans-disciplinary researcher and storyteller studying how the cultural worlds we are part of affect our perceptions, our ethical imagination and our development. He is particularly interested in the cultural innovations of those from the Global South and how we can use them as assets and protective factors, assisting us in producing the worlds we wish to see. One example of this is his study of hip-hop and rap culture and its potential for helping Black and Brown youth “write the word and write the world” (as Paolo Freire might say), envisioning and communicating new futures of wellness and cultural self-determination. Connect with him at [email protected] or @QuasiWoke on Twitter.
