Where Our Paths Lead Now

I heard from Waterdeep this morning —
Gale’s handwriting neat as ever,
Astarion’s little flourish
at the bottom of the page.
They’ve taken a flat near the market,
close to where Tara roosts,
and Mrs. Dekarios insists
on feeding them too much stew.
Sounds like home found them
just the way they needed.

Gale writes of spellwork and starlight,
Astarion of sunrises he never thought he’d see.
They argue over curtains,
over whether a pet bird is a terrible idea,
and every line between them
is threaded with warmth.
Love suits them both
more than they ever believed it could.

And me…
I’m still singing,
but softer now.
Halsin’s laughter fills the spaces
where danger used to live.
Our child curls into my arms
like the world’s gentlest spell,
and I am learning
how steady a life can feel
when the ground beneath your feet
finally agrees to stay.

The grove is quieter these days.
I walk the paths with little footsteps
matching mine.
Halsin hums old druid songs
while carving toys from fallen branches,
and I swear the forest leans in
just to listen.
Home suits me
more than I ever let myself imagine.

Sometimes the wind carries memories —
moonlit rooftops,
the rustle of capes,
Gale muttering through equations,
Astarion teasing him
just to hear him fluster.
I smile, knowing
they’re doing the same somewhere far away:
thinking of me,
but living their joy.

So this is where our paths lead now:
Waterdeep lights shining softly
over two men who finally chose each other,
the grove glowing warm
around the family I never expected.
And though we don’t chase shadows anymore,
we still send love along the roads between us —
a thread unbroken,
a promise kept.

I don’t miss the old life.
I just carry it gently.
And somewhere in Waterdeep,
I know Gale and Astarion
are doing the same.
