Instead of having to present your renovation plans to the full Town Council (a time-consuming and sometimes daunting process), you can now file a single "landmark adjustment request." That alone cuts through a lot of bureaucracy. What’s more, if you're asking for minor exceptions—like a bit more building height, slightly expanded lot coverage, or a tighter setback—you could be granted up to 10% flexibility. And rather than getting dragged into a full-blown debate, your project now lands on the consent agenda, meaning it can get approved quickly and efficiently. That’s a massive win for people trying to maintain the character of their historic homes without facing endless delays.

Then there’s Ordinance 29-2025, which reclassifies renovations that cost over $2,000. These no longer automatically count as major projects, which means fewer unnecessary hurdles. Even better, the town has added the Landmarks Commission’s approval guide to the Town Code, providing clear and accessible guidelines for everyone involved.
