What's up, everybody It's AJ with etraler.com. Today we've been checking out this sleeve lock coupler mount. So this is gonna attach to the ball on your vehicle. It'll be very secure. It would be a great way to haul your trailer down the road. Let's check it out.
This coupler is gonna be channel style, so it's gonna fit in this style of trailer. You have two bolts that run all the way through, and it's gonna fit on a 2-inch ball. Now let's go over how to work the sleeve and coupler. We're gonna have to remove this pin out of the way. Now you can slide this back, which unlocks it from the ball.
So you're just gonna push back on the sleeve. This side pops out, keeping the sleeve back, letting you know that it's unhooked. You can raise your jack up to unhook the ball and the coupler. Here are some details about the coupler. It's being made out of sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish on there.
It's also gonna have a weight capacity of 7,000 pounds, so just keep that in mind with what kind of trailer and vehicle set up you want to use it with. It's gonna work with channel widths of 3 inches. And then you can see the hardware that it comes with. It's gonna be Grade 8 hardware, and they run all the way through the channel to the other side, so it's not just a bolt and a nut here, and on the other side they run through, and you're gonna have a washer on each side and then the nut on this side. To give you a comparison from the standard style coupler, the ball would go up in here, you'd pull the latch, and it would wedge this piece here so it would wedge the ball up to the front of this coupler.
Now how that's different with our sleeve or collar style is once the ball's in there, we'll release the collar. This section goes in and completely goes around the ball, so the ball will be surrounded and locked in tight by this mechanism once the collar's pushed back over here, so there's gonna be less chance of it getting loose. So overall, I think this is gonna be a more secure option for your ball mount that you have set up with it completely going around there, the collar coming here, only making sure that that doesn't pop out. It's gonna be very secure when you're towing it down the road. Now check out how we installed it. First thing I wanna do is put the coupler in the channel and figure out what height you want it at, so you can adjust it to any of these mounting holes. Now it's gonna match up with the center to center. It's gonna be 2 inches in between, so it matches up with that design. So we can go to the bottom two. We're gonna take one of the included bolts and washers, slide it through our top pole to the other side. We're gonna add a washer on this side and then a lock nut after that. We're gonna come back and tie it down with a 15/16-inch socket and 1-inch wrench. (power wrench whirring) Last thing you gotta do is just torque it down to the specifications in the instructions. Overall, I do like the sleeve design. It is much more secure than your standard coupler. I like the fact that it surrounds the ball rather than just wedging it up in the coupler like the standard one. It just feels and seems way more secure this way. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and hope this helps.
