Cats not getting along? If out and out warfare has not broken out, supervised play sessions can help cats associate something good, toys and treats, with other cats in the household.
Supervised play sessions start with the cat owner putting out a selection of toys. The play goes on for 10-15 minutes and ends with some treats.
We can go one step further and finish the play session by offering treats while the cats sit on a soft, fleece blanket. We can encourage calmness through self-soothing behaviors, such as licking and grooming, by using slow feeding mats.
Play and food are arousing to cats but the use of the slow feeding mats encourages cats to come to the blanket and engage in soothing, calming behaviors with the other cats nearby. This can help reduce tension and helps the cats get along better.
