Le Tre Romanze op. 28, fanno parte di quel gruppo di opere pianistiche, particolarmente felici che Roberto Schumann scrisse nei due anni (1838-1839) che precedono il suo matrimonio con Clara Wieck. Schumann stesso stimava, queste Tre Romanze in alto grado, considerandole insieme alle opere 12, 16 e 21, come i migliori pezzi che egli aveva composto per pianoforte. Il rapporto delle tonalità in cui stanno i tre brani (si bemolle minore, fa diesis maggiore e si maggiore) così come i contrasti e le analogie espressive dimostrano che Schumann li aveva concepiti come un gruppo unitario che doveva essere eseguito interamente, anche se oggi la seconda Romanza viene suonata più spesso da sola. La prima è una specie di «perpetuum mobile» dove nell'incessante movimento degli arpeggi di terzine di semicrone è intessuto, secondo la predilezione di Schumann, il filo d'una melodia profondamente espressiva e spesso drammaticamente accentuata. La seconda Romanza è certo una delle pagine più intimamente commosse che Schumann abbia scritto. D'una calma e d'una concentrazione interiore che contrasta con l'inquieto dinamismo della terza Romanza. Quest'ultima è la più estesa delle tre e si presenta come uno Scherzo con due Intermezzi.

The Three Romances op. 28, are part of that group of particularly successful piano works that Roberto Schumann wrote in the two years (1838-1839) preceding his marriage to Clara Wieck. Schumann himself held these Three Romances in high esteem, considering them together with works 12, 16 and 21, as the best pieces he had composed for piano. The relationship of the keys in which the three pieces are found (B flat minor, F sharp major and B major) as well as the contrasts and expressive analogies demonstrate that Schumann had conceived them as a unitary group that had to be performed entirely, even if today the second Romanza is more often played alone. The first is a sort of "perpetuum mobile" where, according to Schumann's predilection, the thread of a deeply expressive and often dramatically accentuated melody is woven into the incessant movement of the arpeggios of semi-note triplets. The second Romance is certainly one of the most intimately moving pages that Schumann wrote. With a calm and an interior concentration that contrasts with the restless dynamism of the third Romance. The latter is the most extensive of the three and is presented as a Scherzo with two Intermezzi.

Antonio Castagna si è diplomato presso l’IMP “G. Braga” di Teramo e, successivamente, si è perfezionato con il M° Franco Medori e con il M° Carlo Zecchi.
Ha suonato successivamente in ARGENTINA, COREA del SUD, GERMANIA, SVIZZERA, AUSTRIA, USA .
Nel 2001 é stato nuovamente invitato a Salisburgo e nel mese di giugno ha suonato a Parigi, presso l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
Ha suonato a Lanciano per la XXX Estate Musicale Frentana e quindi a Basilea per il Consolato Generale d’Italia.
Su invito dell'Istituto Italiano di Cultura, ha suonato in BRASILE, a Rio de Janeiro.
Nel mese di novembre 2010 ha suonato, con il Trio di Teramo, a Filadelfia (USA) nello Haverford College, nella Union League e nel Consolato Generale d’Italia.
E' stato Direttore, dal 1996 al 2012, dell’I.S.S.M “Gaetano BRAGA“ di Teramo. E' stato docente di Pianoforte nei Conservatori di Foggia e di Teramo.

Antonio Castagna graduated from IMP “G. Braga” of Teramo and, subsequently, he perfected himself with Maestro Franco Medori and Maestro Carlo Zecchi.
He has held numerous concerts and recitals in Italy and abroad . He has participated several times in RAI radio and television programs.
He played in Salzburg as part of the Salzburger Schlosskonzerte and in Paris, at the Italian Cultural Institute, as part of the “Hommage à LA FIGLIA DI JORIO” event.
He toured Basel for the Consulate General of Italy.
At the invitation of the Italian Cultural Institute, he played in BRAZIL, in Rio de Janeiro, in the prestigious National Museum of Fine Arts.
He played, with the Teramo Trio, in Philadelphia (USA) in the Marshall Auditorium of Haverford College, in the Lincoln Hall of the Union League.
He was Director, from 1996 to 2012, of the I.S.S.M "Gaetano BRAGA" of Teramo. He was a piano teacher at the Conservatories of Foggia and Teramo.
His recordings are also on the official website of the HalidonMusic record label, world leader in classical and instrumental music.
