The Battle of Monte Cassino. Aerial view of the town and abbey in Italy. During an exercise west of Cassino, near Monte Camino, New Zealand gunners fire British 6 Pounder Antitank gun and a captured German Pak 40 75mm antitank gun, Views of the anti-tank men loading and firing their weapon. Smoke rises due to the firing. As part of the exercise, Infantry of 24th Battalion, 2nd Division,New Zealand Expeditionary Force, advance with fixed bayonets and one fires a machine gun. Group of New Zealand soldiers stand near a jeep and a destroyed US Sherman tank of 756th Tank Battalion, amidst destroyed buildings in the north of Cassino. Several New Zealand soldiers smile for the camera. Location: Italy. Date: March 1944.
