I got a question on an earlier video from a subscriber who was stuck. He’s studying for a CFA exam and is stuck on a certain topic that he just can’t seem to understand. And we have all been there right, you read a topic in the curriculum or watch the video lesson for that topic, and everything seems fine. Then you maybe run through a blue box that asks the question in a similar way to how the topic presented it, so you breeze through that. But then when the same topic is tested in an EOC question, or maybe in a mock exam, you can’t seem to understand how they are getting to a certain answer with the provided explanation. It just doesn’t always make sense. Well if you’ve been in this scenario before where you feel stuck, don’t worry. You can learn almost anything CFA related on Analyst Forum, and if you haven’t been using this resource already, I promise it is going to change things for you.
Analyst forum was at one time the most popular online forum for CFA related conversations, and its still the more popular online destination for the “old school” CFA crowd. It has more recently been passed by r/CFA in terms of total users, but there is one thing that r/CFA doesn’t come close to Analyst Forum on, which is the quality of explanations and teaching of certain topics, that many candidates have also been stuck on in the past. In my own experience, there were many times when I was studying for a particular type of question and I just couldn’t wrap my head around why the answer was that was that it was. So I would use the search function on analyst forum looking for key words from the question I was straddling with, and 99 times out of 100 there was someone who had posted the same exact question, like 10 years ago. And sometimes, they were even referencing the exact same blue box example or EOC question number, which make things even more helpful. I can only think of 1 time when I couldn’t find a similar question that had been asked in the past and so I had to make a new post asking it myself.
The real greatness of analyst forum lies within the answers that are given to confused candidates. Many of the long-time posters on this site are extremely knowledgeable on everything CFA. And even though some of them are like 60-70 years old, they still remember very minute differences between certain types of questions, and their answers will bring so much clarity to any question you have been stuck on. I was always surprised by how many people on this forum are so good at answering questions for struggling candidates, and I can’t believe that the site is free to use.
There is one use in particular who has offered more advice than anyone else. If you have ever spent more than 10 minutes on analyst forum you will have likely seen his username. S2000 magician or Bill, is basically a genius who spends his time working on things related to the CFA exams. He seems to love helping candidates when they are stuck. I think Bill was the person who offered the clarification of like half of the question I would logon to analyst forum for help on. As of early 2021 he is still very active on the site, and you can learn more about him personally on his own website.
Now if you are going to make a new post on the site asking about a question you have, you should double check a couple things first. Make sure that your question hasn’t been asked already before by using the search function that I mentioned earlier. Also consider that you should still be doing most of the learning on your own, and you should try your best to understand something first. Because if you are making a post every day asking about relatively simple topics, people are going to catch on to the fact that you’re being lazy and they’ll just stop helping you, or maybe have some fun on your behalf, like I had happen to me after posting a comment that had a couple typos in it. But really these people are offering you their help for fee and just doing it for fun, so don’t take advantage of a good thing. Put in the work first, and if you really can’t grasp something, then feel free to ask.
If you have an idea of something you want me to cover in depth, please let me know because I take your requests seriously. Will be back with more CFA Exam tips in a couple of weeks so please submit more questions you would like to hear answered. Love you all!
