Some people has to suffer from pain in the neck as well as arm, forearm and upto fingers due to entrapment of the nerve whether due to bone or joints or soft tissues adhesion .
When such cases visit to a Physiotherapist , he has to perform a test to confirm the diagnosis as well as nerve affected due to compression.
The test performed is known as ' NEURODYNAMIC test' or 'UPPER LIMB TENSION TEST ' Or PROVOCATING TEST .
Here the testing nerve is given pressure at multiple point by positioning of the limb.
Testing position for RADIAL Nerve is -
Position of the patient - Supine Lying with shoulder out of the couch
1. Keep Arm- in Abduction to 10 Degree
2. Depress the shoulder
3. Arm - in Internal Rotation
4. Elbow - In Extension
5. Forearm- in Pronation
6.Wrist - in Flexion
7. Fingers- in Flexion
Now apply pressure by flexing the wrist and fingers .
If the patient has the complain of Pain / Numbness / Tingling , we say that test is positive for the Radial nerve.

To more sensitize the nerve- Neck is tilted or sideflexed to opposite side with slight rotation.
Again repeat the same technique and check whether complain of patient has increased as compare to before .
Treatmet - nerve is glided in the same manner as the test is done .

Root value of Radial Nerve-C5, C6,C7,C8,T1

Nerve has the property of Gliding . If it is pinched between soft tissues or bone then it causes pain .
Nerve has the property of Convergence or Divergence .
