Quite a surreal moment today, filming and editing this video. I auditioned for drama school for the first time in December 2014. After being rejected, I let it go for 2 years. I went and I lived my life for a while and in 2017 I decided to get back on track. I auditioned at LAMDA, ALRA & ArtsEd. During these auditions I made videos exploring my experiences right the way from my first audition to my acceptance to Alra. At 16 years old, I had no ambitions, I had just left school with no grades. I didn't sit exams and the exams I did sit I had no idea what I was doing because I just didn't fit in with the whole "system". I felt lost. I thought "well, I have no gcses and no idea what I want to do or who I want to be." I gave up. Until half way through 17. I decided I wanted more. I auditioned for a performing arts course at college and they told me, I quote, "you don't have the grades that you need to get on the course but we'll let you on based on your audition" and it was then my journey began. 2013 right the way to 2017 where I started my degree.
A council estate lad, who left school with nothing, made a dream a reality. I finished ALRA with a first class honours in Acting. I proved my 16 year old self wrong.
I hope this series has helped any young person who wants to go to drama school. This video is to help vulnerable young adults who are going to drama school. The advice I give in this video is all the advice I wish I was told.
Best wishes and good luck,
James x
