🎯 Velocity vs. Estimated Velocity in Agile
📌 What is Velocity?
🔷 Velocity represents the amount of work completed in a given time box (iteration/sprint).
◻️ It is the sum of story points for all the stories completed in a sprint.
◻️ Example: If you finish stories worth 30 story points in a sprint, your velocity is 30 points.
📌 What is Estimated Velocity?
🔷 Estimated Velocity is a forecast of how much work the team expects to complete in future iterations.
◻️ Based on Historical Data: If available, use the team’s past average velocity as a reference.
◻️ Without Historical Data: Estimate an initial velocity to facilitate long-term planning and adjust after a few iterations.
📌 Key Differences:
◻️ Velocity: Actual work completed in a sprint.
◻️ Estimated Velocity: Forecasted work capacity for upcoming sprints.
📌 Why Use Velocity?
✔️ Helps teams track progress.
✔️ Provides a reliable metric for planning future sprints.
📌 Why Use Estimated Velocity?
✔️ Enables long-term planning and forecasting for roadmaps or release plans.
