December at Swadini means full campsites, a Christmas program, loud pool entertainment… and not exactly what an overlander at heart dreams of. So I asked myself the question: can I survive Swadini over December without losing my sanity?

Instead of joining the pool party, I escaped the madness. We headed up Mariepskop, explored the Blyde Dam sluices after the heavy rains, took a boat trip on the dam, and visited HESC. Turns out Swadini can actually work — if you use it as a base and get out there.

This video isn’t a resort review, and it’s definitely not a complaint. It’s an honest look (with a bit of self-mockery) at how a slightly grumpy overlander navigates a busy December campsite — and finds peace anyway.
