The war against Ukraine is destroying the Russian economy. In July alone, the Kremlin published a budget deficit of $15 billion — more than a quarter of its annual forecast. Sanctions are tightening, oil and gas exports are falling, and Moscow's military funds are rapidly depleting. In addition, gas prices in Russia are rising sharply.
Meanwhile, Hungary is criticising Ukraine, accusing it of attacking the “Druzhba” pipeline in Russia. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó claims that the attack “threatens Hungary's energy security”, while Kyiv points to Moscow's supply lines as a legitimate target.
