I am an experienced electronics engineer, trained in power electronics. This video is for entertainment and informational purposes only and I do not recommend doing this at home unless, like me, you are aware of the risks and know what you're doing.
This is a follow-on from my live stream on December 17, 2021 with Bil Herd. See the link in the video to view.
We were talking about driving a string of 37 warm-white LEDs, but as they have a forward voltage drop of 3.2V, we need at least 118.4V DC. Also, (small) LEDs get really unhappy if you drive them past about 22mA, so you need to drive them through a current limit circuit. In the livestream we showed the current limit and simulated it in MicroCap (a powerful and now FREE simulation program), but I promised during out stream that I would follow up with a demo once I had put all the LEDs and the current driver together.... here it is, I hope you enjoy it!!
Stay tuned for an update showing the ensuing PCB design and PWM effects with an ESP8266 or something.
