✅ What you’ll need

Original HP Smart Tank ink bottles (Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow)

A clean tissue or cloth

Flat, stable surface

💡 Tip: Always use original HP ink to avoid printhead damage and warranty issues.

🔹 Step 1: Turn on the printer

Make sure the printer is powered ON before refilling.
(This helps the printer properly detect ink levels.)

🔹 Step 2: Open the ink access door

Lift the top/front ink access lid

You’ll see clearly labeled ink tanks (B, C, M, Y)

🔹 Step 3: Open the correct ink tank cap

Match the ink bottle color to the tank color

Flip open the tank cap (do not remove it completely)

🔹 Step 4: Refill the ink (no squeezing!)

Remove the bottle cap

Turn the bottle upside down and place it into the tank

Do NOT squeeze — the bottle stops automatically when full

Wait until the ink flow stops

✔ The Smart Tank system is spill-free when used correctly

🔹 Step 5: Close everything

Lift the bottle straight up

Close the tank cap securely

Close the ink access door

🔹 Step 6: Check ink levels

Look at the ink level window on the printer

Or check ink levels via:

HP Smart App

Printer display (if available)

🔹 Step 7: Run printhead alignment (recommended)

After refilling:

Open HP Smart App

Go to Printer Maintenance

Run Printhead Alignment (and Cleaning if needed)

This ensures the best print quality.

❌ Never mix different ink brands

❌ Don’t overfill past the max line

❌ Don’t refill while the printer is OFF

❌ Don’t force ink into the tank
