JOURNEY TOWARDS THE CROSS: FROM CREATION TO RESURRECTION – TRACING GOD’S PATH OF REDEMPTION - Rev.A.F.Amos Lazarus,Parish Priest,CSI Tamil church Sharjah,UAE
Day-1 (18.02.2026) Walking with God Brings Life
Genesis 1:1–10
Creation: God’s Perfect Beginning
In the quiet hush of the first day of Lent, we return to the absolute beginning. Before the ashes, before the wilderness, and before the cross, there was the Voice.
To walk with God is to recognize that our lives are not a series of accidents, but a deliberate response to a Divine Call. Genesis 1:1–10 reveals that "Life" is not merely biological existence; it is the result of God’s order subduing the chaos.
1. Out of the Tohu wa-Bohu (Waste and Void)
In the beginning, the earth was tohu wa-bohu—formless and empty. It represents the "nothingness" we often feel when we are distant from our Creator. Yet, the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters.
• The Theological Truth: God does not fear your darkness. He is drawn to the void in our hearts, not to condemn it, but to fill it.
• The Lenten Connection: We begin Lent by acknowledging our own "emptiness," trusting that the same Spirit is hovering over our lives, ready to create something new.
2. The Power of "Fiat Lux" (Let There be Light)
God creates through His Word. When He speaks, reality shifts. He separates light from darkness, establishing a rhythm—evening and morning.
Walking with God brings life because God is the Great Definer. He names the Light "Day" and the Darkness "Night." In our walk with Him, He begins to define us, stripping away the false labels the world has given us and restoring our true identity as His handiwork.
3. The Gathering of the Waters: God’s Boundaries
By the third day (Genesis 1:9–10), God gathers the waters to let the dry land appear. He calls the dry land "Earth" and the waters "Seas."
• Order is Grace: We often view boundaries as restrictive, but in creation, boundaries are what make life possible. Without the separation of sea and land, there is no place for the seed to grow.
• The Walk: To walk with God is to accept His holy boundaries. In these "limitations"—prayer, fasting, and service—we find the solid ground (the "Dry Land") upon which we can finally stand firm.
