Intrauterine insemination is a process where in a processed sperms are placed inside the uterine cavity of the woman roughly around the time of ovulation.
So this helps in better chances of fertilization and in turn helps in increasing the pregnancy chances.
Five important steps during the procedure of IUI
1) Step 1 - Consulting your fertility specialist to discuss about your history of infertility, having a transvaginal ultrasound scan, discussing about your treatment options to decide whether IUI is the right treatment for you or not.
2) Step 2 - Meeting your doctor on the second or third day of your period to begin the treatment for IUI.
3) Step 3 - Monitoring of the follicles called as follicular monitoring. It is important to track how the growth of the follicles and how many follicles are growing.
4) Step 4 - Trigger that is giving the HCG shot. So after the trigger injection is given, the final and fifth step is the IUI.
5) Step 5 - The IUI is scheduled anywhere between 36 to 48 hours and it can be a single or a double IUI, depending on the semen parameters.

The whole process is about five minutes, but the processing and the liquefaction can take about an hour.
Once done, the woman is asked to rest for ten minutes and after that she can resume her activities as usual.

Post procedure, you will be given progesterone supplements for 10 to 15 days and you will be as normal as possible.

The success rate of IUI is roughly about 12 to 15% per cycle
The cost can vary anywhere between 8 to 20,000 depending on the fertility center that you choose, the medications which you take, the package you choose.
