Ports today must constantly improve quality, increase productivity and lower costs for shipping companies in order to compete on the international stage.

Kateon Natie is working with Fujitsu and ELBEX to use real-time information to help improve traffic management and port control.

Elbex give Katoen Natie a 360 solution. They enable Katoen Natie to collect data on every vehicle entering or leaving the terminal at Antwerp.

This enables Katoen Natie to identify rush hours by calculating the number of vehicles entering and leaving the terminals, receiving alerts of registered vehicles and easily classify new vehicles.

The system can also render reports and graphs where per x time they can quick and easy consult the diversity of plates sorted by country of registration.

Each camera’s live video stream is continuously processed and analysed by dedicated Fujitsu servers, extracting license plates by using OCR algorithms. The extracted metadata is stored in a database including the snapshot of each plate, a cut out thumbnail of the plate itself, country, colour, reliability score. The video images are also stored by the video management system Digifort that links every event with a video clip to a very easy and rapid way of consulting all the events for forensic purposes.

Put simply, Fujitsu server and storage technology helps Katoen Natie increase productivity and lower costs through the provision of real time traffic management information.
