Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Skyacedare! Tonight, we’re excited to bring you along on a special journey—a night flight from Lagos, Nigeria, to Accra, Ghana, onboard the classic Boeing 737-300. This video offers a step-by-step experience, showing you how a flight unfolds from start to finish, with all the details, procedures, and insights included.
I’ll be serving as the Pilot Flying (PF) on this flight, alongside Captain Ahmad, who will be our Pilot Monitoring (PM) and the Pilot in Command (PIC). Together, we’ll guide you through this smooth-weather night flight, covering each procedure and checklist from pre-start all the way to landing.
This flight offers an excellent opportunity for aviation enthusiasts, aspiring pilots, or anyone interested in the teamwork, precision, and skill required in a professional cockpit. Make sure you like, subscribe, and turn on notifications so you don’t miss any content—especially as we prepare for our next leg from Accra to Monrovia in just a few days.
Let’s get started with pre-flight preparations!
PRE-FLIGHT AND COCKPIT BRIEFING
We’re here at Lagos with clear night skies—a perfect setting for our leg to Accra. The Boeing 737-300 is ideal for short-to-medium-range flights and is ready for a smooth, efficient journey. We’ll be flying westward, initially climbing to FL280 (28,000 feet) for a steady cruise above the landscape. With favorable weather along our route, it’s an excellent chance to show the flow of a smooth flight.
ENGINE START AND TAXI
With startup clearance, we’ll follow the sequence to bring our two CFM56 engines to life. We begin by starting Engine 2 and monitoring parameters, then start Engine 1 once stable. A careful engine start ensures stable temperatures and pressures.
Next, we complete the after-start checklist, verifying anti-ice settings, engine generators, and flight controls. All is running smoothly, so we’re cleared to taxi.
TAXI TO TAKEOFF
With taxi clearance, we proceed to the active runway. During taxi, our checklist ensures everything is set for takeoff, including flap and trim configuration, autobrakes to RTO (Rejected Takeoff), and flight instrument confirmation. This is also our final chance for any last checks before takeoff.
BEFORE TAKEOFF AND TAKEOFF
We’re lined up on runway 18L, completing the before-takeoff checklist. Engines are idling, lights are set, and the cabin is secure for takeoff. Everything looks good—let’s go!
With takeoff power set and speed building, we’re cleared for departure. We reach V1… Rotate… and we’re airborne. Positive rate, gear up, and off we go!
After reaching a safe altitude, we retract flaps as scheduled and engage autopilot to assist in managing the climb, targeting FL280.
CLIMB AND CRUISE
As we climb to FL280, we monitor our engine instruments, pressurization systems, and fuel flow. At cruising altitude, the night sky is serene—no turbulence, just a quiet, steady ride. The calm of night flying allows for a smooth flight with minimal interruptions, offering us the chance to enjoy the journey.
In cruise, we follow our pre-planned route with all systems stable. Now, we prepare for our arrival in Ghana, taking time to review our approach.
DESCENT AND APPROACH TO ACCRA
As we near Accra, we begin our descent. This phase requires precision, lowering altitude smoothly while controlling speed and descent rate. We’ll be landing on [runway name] at Accra, where clear skies continue to provide ideal arrival conditions.
Captain Ahmad (PM): Descent checklist complete.
FINAL APPROACH AND LANDING
Now on final approach, landing gear is down, flaps set, and all systems are ready for touchdown. We slow our speed, aligning carefully for a smooth landing.
Touchdown! Throttles back, spoilers deployed, and reverse thrust applied to safely reduce speed. Exiting the runway, we prepare for the final checklist.
PM (SFO Dare): After-landing checklist complete.
TAXI TO GATE AND SHUTDOWN
On the taxiway, we head to the gate, reflecting on a satisfying flight—everything went as planned. After reaching the gate, we run the shutdown checklist, securing the aircraft.
With engines and lights off, our journey to Accra is complete.
Thank you for joining us on this beautiful night flight! We hope you enjoyed this step-by-step journey and gained insight into flying the Boeing 737-300. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and stay tuned—our next flight from Accra to Monrovia is just a few days away.
