Kingdom of Sardinia (1720-1861) National Anthem "S'hymnu sardu nationale"

La musica invece venne composta dal maestro sassarese Giovanni Gonella (1804-1854), musicante della "Brigata Regina". La prima esecuzione ebbe luogo al Teatro Civico di Castello di Cagliari il 20 febbraio 1844. L'inno fu sempre tenuto in grande considerazione dai sovrani. L'ultima esecuzione ufficiale fu nel 1937, dal coro della Cappella Sistina, direttore Lorenzo Perosi, per espresso desiderio di Vittorio Emanuele III di Savoia, durante la cerimonia per il conferimento della Rosa d'Oro alla regina Elena.



This hymne was written in the XIX century by the priest Vittorio Angius. The music was composed by Giovanni Gonella (1804-1854) from Sassari. The first performance ever was on 20th February 1844, in the Civic Theatre of Castello di Cagliari. The last official one instead was in the Sistine Chapel, in 1937, by the will of Victor Emmanuel III of Savoy, during a ceremony of the Golden Rose for the Queen Helen. The hymne conserved a lot of importance in all its history.

Il Regno di Sardegna, dopo essere stato per lungo tempo territorio spagnolo– in seguito alla Guerra di Successione Spagnola – nel 1720 passò a Vittorio Amedeo II di Savoia che lo associò agli altri stati ereditari della Casata , come il Piemonte, il Nizzardo, la Savoia e Aosta. Durante l'era napoleonica, il Piemonte fu occupato dall'Impero Francese, ma il Regno fu restaurato nel 1814. La fusione perfetta tra i territori della terraferma e l'isola avvene nel 1847,attuata da Carlo Alberto di Savoia. Il Regno di Sardegna divenne uno stato unitario, con un unica costituzione,lo Statuto Albertino,nel 1848. Il nuovo stato aveva come capitale Torino, da secoli residenza della dinastia. Con l'unificazione italiana e l'annessione degli stati preunitari, l'ultimo Re di Sardegna, Vittorio Emanuele II, assunse il titolo di Re d'Italia il 17 marzo 1861, pur mantenendo la titolatura del Regno di Sardegna.
