During Senate floor debate, Sen. Matt Boehnke, R-Kennewick, opposes the Democrats’ proposed income tax bill, SB 6346, and warns that it acts as a “gateway drug” that opens the door to broader taxation on all Washington families.
Boehnke argues the proposal will not stop with so-called millionaires. He says lawmakers will eventually expand the tax to more Washingtonians, drive small businesses out of state, hurt job creators, and impact kids and families across the state. Pointing to states like New York and Connecticut, he argues that those policies pushed businesses away and weakened local economies while eroding generational wealth. He calls on lawmakers to demand greater accountability in state spending and to fix fraud, waste, and misuse of existing funds before asking taxpayers for more money.
At the close of his remarks, Boehnke urges the Senate to reject what he calls a “gateway drug” to a statewide income tax.
