A South Korean woman in her 20s was sentenced to four years in prison after extorting roughly 300 million won, about $204,000, from soccer star Son Heung-min. She sent him a fake ultrasound image in June 2024, claiming she was pregnant with his child, and demanded money to keep it private. Son paid at first, then reported her when he realized the evidence was fabricated.
Investigators later found she spent the money on luxury goods and had even tried a similar scam on another man before turning to Son. Her boyfriend, who sent repeated threats demanding another 70 million won, received a two-year sentence after admitting his involvement.
The court condemned the pair for exploiting Son's trust and fame, saying the emotional harm was severe. Son, now playing for LAFC after leaving Tottenham, has not commented publicly beyond confirming the claims were false.
