DESCRIPTION:
In 1949, the Indonesian Government established Garuda Indonesia as its national carrier. Within decades, not only did it expand quickly, but it became an aviation pioneer with its industry-leading innovations and focus on affordability and cabin experience.

However, a cascading chain of events and a questionable transformation plan knocked Garuda out of its golden years, becoming an airline that has struggled to stay out of operational and financial trouble. Fortunately, government intervention and new management gave them some hope.

Regardless, I chose Garuda Indonesia for most of my Indonesian adventures. What influenced my decision to fly this 7.5-hour flight to the world's fourth-largest sovereign state? Is it the award-winning hospitality? Delicious food? Or getting more for my experience for less?

In this first Hardly Rivai presentation for 2026, join me as I travel on Garuda Indonesia's Economy Class aboard the Airbus A330-300 on a non-stop flight (GA713) from Sydney, Australia, to Jakarta, Indonesia.
