Saul, the first king of Israel, played a crucial role in biblical history. The son of Kish and a member of the tribe of Benjamin, Saul was chosen as king when the Israelites cried out for a monarchy. His story is recorded in the first book of Samuel, spanning chapters 9 to 31.

The name Saul means “asked for” in Hebrew, possibly conveying the idea of being an “ask of God”.

The prophet Samuel secretly anointed Saul as king, and later, in Mizpah, publicly presented him to the people.

However, Saul's reign was marked by disobedience and envy, leading to his rejection by God.
