A set of 4 ATLAS Ciclotrafic traction elevators in a premium mid-rise office building. Know what's the best thing about these now? A relative of mine has moved into an office here months before I filmed this, meaning that I now have practically free access to them.
Cabs are quite big, nearly hospital-sized, not always seen in towers like this one. These can fit a lot of people in peak hours. Big mirror from top to bottom in the back wall of each car, looks very cool when entering them, especially on the lobby.
Conservation is great, they are very well kept and appear intact since installation, all of the car and hall indicators, lanterns and buttons are working properly.
No major modifications were made to them.
The fixtures used are a more high-end version of the regular 1st-gen Classe A. The Ciclotrafic, was mainly used in high-end office buildings like this one that use bigger elevators for higher traffic and travel distance.
The differences from the regular version are the dot-matrix IPM indicator (which looks a lot like the Schindler S-Series ones), taller and flush-mounted COPs, more components and elaborate fixtures, support for voice modules, and the different vent grilles atop the walls. Aside from that, everything is the same as regular installs, hall fixtures are not different - good example of an analog indicator with 22 stops.
One note, is that even though this version tends to be more commonly seen using the touch-sensitive fixtures, the regular "AE" pushbuttons can also be found on it.
Small thing to mention, see that "No Smoking" sign above the COP, left of the serial number badge? That was drawn by CauduroMartino, the same architects who were involved in projecting signage for Villares and tons of other famous companies. They did some elevator fixtures and design concepts for Atlas back in the day, most notably the Modern Line series of cabs and the ML landing swing doors. That same no smoking sign could also be found in the signage system for São Paulo's CMTC bus network in the 1970s/80s.
Performance, is mostly great. They don't shake, don't bump, and the starts and stops are mild, the ride quality is great and they're very comfortable to ride overall.
The problem is their travel speed - they're too slow for the amount of floors. The large size of the cabs and having 4 cars grouped together helps with managing traffic, but the journeys are very slow. Leveling is also very slow, which kills the efficiency they could have. Speaking of it, there is one issue that seems to affect some cars, which is the vibration when leveling, clearly heard in this video. It likely has to do with some configuration or condition on the operator. This doesn't affect much of the ride, it's more about the noise, the vibration felt inside by it is very small. It's a bit louder in some cars, like the one directly in front of the I rode in the video.
While they don't have any audible motors, mostly due to other loud machinery at the top draining the sound out, the car I rode makes a pulsing sound when the car is moving, which sounds epic, echoing through the shaft as it accelerates. The other 3 have it but less audible.
Good show of elevators, hope that managers don't have a modernization in mind... (unfortunately they do).
