Filmed between 2017 & 2020. As we come to the end of 2020, the country is now back into a month lockdown sadly after on what has been a very difficult year for all. So, instead of introducing the return of 'Ricky Nowis Train Sim Journeys' there will be 5 compliation videos. Starting with the class 142 & 144 Pacerbuses otherwise known as the nodding donkeys.
Love them or hate them, the Pacerbuses played a big roll in the Northern franchise running from Cheshire to the reigions of North East, Yorkshire and Cumbrian Coast diagrams. The class 142 Pacer was introduced into service in 1985 to work alongside the short life of the class 141 Pacerbuses. But, they started of with Leyland engines but oddly with ZF gearboxes. In the later years, the 142 Pacers had been re-engined and had a simple gear change at 40 MPH which allows them to run at a speed of 75 MPH. The class 142 Pacerbuses were also seen throughout Dorset, Devon/Cornwall & South Wales areas.
Northern 142's had 3 different seating layout. The original bus style seating or bench bus seats in other words from Leyland buses. Which Pacers with bus style seats were mostly seen around the Greater Manchester, Merseyside & Cheshire areas. The odd low back 2X3 seating layout which is otherwise known as 'spine killer' seats which provided for extra seating but did have an impact on the ride comfort. Finally, the final seat layout is the South Yorkshire seating which has the high back seating. Majority of the class 142's has been withdrawn and even scrapped with some being preserved and for a short time bought back into service.
In 1986, the class 144 Pacerbuses was introduced in form of 2 or 3 carriages. These were based and for work in the Yorkshire areas. They started with the bus style seating before being refurbished for high back seating. The 144's as 3 carriage units was ideal for stopping diagrams in Yorkshire such as Huddersfield to Sheffield, Leeds to Sheffield and was even seen on The Harrogate Loop. In 2019, the Pacerbuses made a return to the Yorkshire Coast which worked services between Scarborough & Sheffield via Hull. In June 2020, the 144 Pacers were withdrawn from service. With most gone for storage and some has gone into preservation.
